What is a Supported Holiday?
Taking a break is great for your health and wellbeing, but finding a supported holiday that meets your needs can be challenging.
We offer a range of supported holidays, including solo travel, group getaways, and custom trips. Whether you need help with planning, personal support, or a travel companion, we can help make your dream holiday a reality.
Solo Travel With Support
If you want to travel independently but need some help, we can support you to plan your supported holiday from start to finish. Your coordinator can assist with:
- Holiday planning
- Budgeting, including using NDIS funding
- Booking accommodation and transport
- Organising one-on-one support
If you need extra assistance while travelling, a community support worker can help with:
- Personal care and daily living tasks
- Budgeting and managing holiday expenses
- Overnight support
- Mealtimes and transport
- Socialising and mobility assistance
With the right support, you can enjoy a stress-free and accessible travel experience.
Supported Group Getaways
Group travel is a great way to meet new people and share experiences. Our supported holidays bring people together for small group adventures and camps across Victoria and interstate.
We plan everything, including accommodation, transport, and paperwork, so you can focus on enjoying the trip. If you have a dream destination in mind, we can help organise a group or customise a trip for you and your friends.
With nearly 40 years of experience, we know how to make supported holidays enjoyable, safe, and accessible.
Using NDIS Funding for a Supported Holiday
Many people ask if the NDIS will pay for a supported holiday. The answer is yes—partially.
The NDIS does not cover general holiday costs like flights, accommodation, visas, food, or entertainment. However, it can fund the support you need while on your trip.
If a community support worker travels with you, NDIS funding can cover their time. However, you will need to pay for their travel, accommodation, and other expenses.
Support worker costs are usually funded under the following category:
- Core Supports – Assistance with Social and Community Participation (Category 4).
Since Core Supports funding is flexible, you may also be able to use budgets from other Core Supports categories. You can learn more about Core Support funding on the NDIS website.
What Will NDIS Cover?
The NDIS might cover the following elements of your supported holiday, depending on your NDIS plan and unique needs:
- Support worker hours during the trip
- Portable equipment hire (if required for accessibility)
- Extra transport and accommodation costs if they are significantly higher due to your disability
Can You Use Short-Term Accommodation (STA) for a Supported Holiday?
No, STA cannot be used for holidays. STA is funded by the NDIS for specific reasons, such as:
- Respite – A short stay away from home to give family or carers a break.
- Skill-building – Programs that help develop independence and life skills.
If you’re unsure whether your you qualify for STA, speak to your Support Coordinator, Local Area Coordinator, Early Childhood Partner, or planner. You can also learn more about STA on the NDIS website.
Important Things to Remember
- NDIS funding does not cover the cost of your holiday, but it can fund support worker services. Remember, you will need to pay for your support worker’s flights, accommodation, and meals, not NDIS.
- Confirm with your coordinator in advance how many hours of support your worker will provide, so you can make sure you have enough funding left in your plan to cover your support worker for the rest of the year.
- Consider travelling in a group and sharing a support worker to reduce costs.
- Get travel insurance and read the terms carefully to make sure you are covered.
- Remember, STA funding cannot be used for holidays
