Participant and support coordinator discussing NDIS plan indexation.

Understanding NDIS Plan Indexation: What it means for your funding

You may have noticed a change to your NDIS funding in July. This may be due to NDIS plan indexation.

Each year, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) checks NDIS prices and updates eligible plan funding. This helps your funding keep up when the cost of NDIS supports increases.

How does NDIS plan indexation work?

Each year, the NDIA reviews the cost of NDIS supports through its Annual Pricing Review (APR). It looks at market data, research and public feedback, and speaks with participants, providers and other stakeholders.

This review helps the NDIA update NDIS prices. Some prices may increase, while others may stay the same or decrease.

If you had an approved NDIS plan on 30 June and still had eligible funding left, the NDIA automatically updated that funding on 4 July. This is called NDIS plan indexation.

If NDIS prices increased, the NDIA may have added funding to your remaining budget. This helps you continue to receive a similar level of support at the new prices. If prices decreased, the NDIA did not reduce your funding.

You do not need to apply for plan indexation or ask the NDIA to update your plan.

How could NDIS plan indexation affect your plan?

NDIS plan indexation will affect each participant differently. The change may depend on:

  • The supports funded in your plan
  • Which NDIS prices increased
  • How much funding you had left
  • How much time remained in your plan.

If you had already used most of your funding by 30 June, you may only see a small increase.

Indexation does not reassess or renew your plan. It does not change your goals, extend your plan or add new supports.

It also may not give you more hours of support. If your providers increase their prices, the extra funding helps cover those higher costs.

How can your support coordinator help?

Your support coordinator can help you understand what the change may mean for your supports.

They can:

  • Review your updated plan with you
  • Explain how price changes may affect your services
  • Check whether your current supports remain within budget
  • Help you speak with providers about prices or service agreements
  • Help you plan your supports for the rest of your plan.

They can:

  • Show you where your plan balance has changed
  • Explain how much funding remains
  • Help you track invoices and spending
  • Identify areas where you may be spending faster than planned
