Bendigo Strikers host Netball For All exhibition match
On Sunday, 23rd June 2024, the Bendigo Netball for All team will showcase their skills in an exhibition match before the Bendigo Strikers Championship Team’s Round 18 game against the Western Warriors at Red Energy Arena.
The collaboration between Lifely, Bendigo Strikers and Golden City Netball Association aims to promote netball as an inclusive sport for regional Victorians of all abilities.
Bendigo Netball for All has been fostering a love for netball among players with disabilities and neurodiversity for 30 years, encouraging them to be active, develop new skills, and have fun in a safe and inclusive environment.
Supported by the Golden City Netball Association, the team plays weekly during their winter season, with gameplay adapted to suit the needs, skills, and confidence of each player.
Bendigo Strikers’ Board Member, Ben DeAraugo, expressed excitement about sharing the court with Bendigo Netball for All ahead of their last home game for the season.
“We wholeheartedly support grassroots netball initiatives because they lay the foundation for the future of our sport, fostering a love for netball among people of all ages, genders, and abilities,” Ben said.
“Inclusion isn’t just about opening doors; it’s about creating a level playing field where everyone can shine.”
The 2024 season has been an exciting one for Bendigo Netball for All, with local disability service provider Lifely coming onboard as the team’s new coordinator.
Lifely Chief Executive Officer, Janette Martin, expressed pride in Lifely becoming the new team coordinator in early 2024 and looked forward to cheering on the team from the stands.
“Sports and recreation activities offer a powerful tool for positive change, enhancing the lives of people with disabilities,” said Ms. Martin.
“Adaptive and modified sports and recreation activities are essential for promoting healthy lifestyle habits, good physical health, mental wellbeing, and social inclusion,” she added.
“More importantly, the universal appeal of sports breaks down barriers, providing opportunities for people to engage with the community and build meaningful relationships.
“We invite the community to come out and support this wonderful initiative, celebrating the spirit of inclusivity and the joy of sports.”
